Performance Issue – Lack of time/materials/support

Solution – Reorganise, improve resourcing or support
If the performance problem has been caused partly or fully by a lack of ‘tools’ to do the job or some other lack of required support we must accept some responsibility for rectifying the situation and take action. The following table includes some suggestions:

  • Observe them doing the job (yourself or another experienced person) understand what the real problem is
  • Think about whether other people doing the same job are delivering at a high level to identify whether the problem is the job/materials/support or the employee
  • Provide additional resources/support if required
  • Redesign the job or reallocate workloads if the individual genuinely can’t handle the workload
  • Reset priorities
  • Identify any work that is unnecessary and stop it
  • Review staffing levels
  • Redesign SOP’s
  • Arrange coaching or training if necessary

Continued poor performance should result in a formal PIP or  Disciplinary Action.
